Modernism
Modernism was a literary movement that occured from 1910-1930. It was a turbulent era, especially with people adjusting to life during and after World War I. People of this tie were also in despair due to the Great Depression; which was not only affecting us, but everyone around the world as well. But oddly enough, this was a time of exuberance. Writers began to be more creative in their approach to writing. They wanted new ways to express their feelings through their work. Writers were "breaking rules" when it came to traditional styles of writing. There was more visual representation as they wanted to express their hearts and minds. People in this time period were very simplistic when it came to their writing. Hemingway makes good use of that frequently in this novel. The dialouge is very simple and easy to read, some big words here and there but its not excessive.
